Head of Examinations for EDEC
LSICM Echocardiography Training report author
Previously FUSIC committee member and co-author of FUSIC HD accreditation
Jonathan is a St George's Consultant in General and Cardiac Critical Care and Anaesthesia. He undertook a cardiac ICU and echocardiography fellowship in 2014 and has been practicing and teaching echocardiography ever since. Previously a member of the FUSIC committee and an author of the FUSIC HD program, he now focuses on the European Diploma of Echocardiography (EDEC), holding a position on the expert committee and the role of Head of Examinations. Additionally he set up the St Georges echocardiography education program, critical care echocardiography service and supervises the fellows and ICU trainees during their SSY placements. Together with Richard Fisher, they have recently conducted a review of echocardiography provision and education in ICU for London School for Intensive Care Medicine and have made a series of policy recommendations to formalise training in this area.
His other interests include cardiogenic shock management, haemodynamic monitoring, cardiac intensive care and medical education.
Having set up SLICE with his colleagues, his main focus is on effective education, enabling clinicians to learn a crucial skill efficiently and effectively, whilst helping them integrate this into their existing extensive knowledge base. The final aim should be better, more timely clinical decision-making for all patients, no matter when and where they present. He is passionate about enabling Doctors to achieve this for their own practice as well as for the system as a whole.
